As you may be aware the Government has introduced a cap on non-domestic gas and electricity supplies from the 1st October 2022, for at least six months.
You can find the latest announcement here - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/energy-bill-relief-scheme-help-for-businesses-and-other-non-domestic-customers
As a result of this cap, which is on the kWh tariff, there may be a change the tariff you are charged for your commercial supply, which in turn should be passed to your customers in their heat, hot water, and electricity tariffs.
We understand the announcement sets an expectation that this discount will be passed to residents:
“If you get your energy through a landlord / heat network / energy service company
We expect businesses and other organisation to pass on the benefits under this scheme through to the end user in a reasonable and proportionate way. This will ensure support, for instance, to customers of heat networks and park home residents.” https://www.gov.uk/guidance/energy-bill-relief-scheme-help-for-businesses-and-other-non-domestic-customers
As a result of this, we recognise it may be necessary for you to review any electricity, heating and hot water tariffs charged to residents. There may also be some conflict with your Heat Supply Agreement, especially where it only allows for annual tariff reviews.
If you are unsure how your tariff may be affected by this change, we provide a Tariff Management Service, helping you ensure you recover all necessary costs and comply with schemes such as the Energy Bill Relief Scheme and Energy Bills Support Scheme. If you require any additional support, please let me know.
We can also provide support on developing an effective communication strategy, which we discussed in our webinar earlier this year - https://youtu.be/Qpn4hU0KWEM. We can assist with developing the strategy, resources and direct customer engagement, please let me know if you would like to discuss this additional assistance.
Please note the Energy Bill Relief Scheme is separate from the £400 one-off payment under the Energy Bills Support Scheme.
If you require any further information, or support, please get in touch and we will be happy to assist.
