A meter appears to have lots of numbers and references on it, which can be confusing when you are looking to identify the actual meter serial number. This is even more complicated when it comes to communications modules being attached to meters as well!
The reason capturing the correct serial number is really important, is that when we import meters into Mabdeck, the serial number is how we identify what meter data belongs to which property.
If we have the wrong serial number it means we will not be able to automatically allocate the correct meter data and from the data logger. This will often require a visit to resolve and confirm the correct serial number. It is costly and easily avoided.
We have tried to simplify this with our Meter Serial Reading guide, which is attached to this article and can be shared with your technical colleagues or contractors. This guide shows where you find the serial number for the best and most common meters in the UK.
If your particular meter is not shown in this guide, we're happy to help just Submit a Request for support, as well as attaching a picture of your meter and we will help identify the correct serial number.
There is an added level of complexity with Wireless MBus and IoT (LoRa/NB-IoT/SigFox) where key information is also needed to decrypt the data returns. If you purchased the meter from Sycous, we can supply this information. If not, we can help you get this information from the manufacturer - we just need to know the right serial number.
